Forests are not disappearing, though they are increasing or decreasing across the countries or within the country. In India Forest cover has increased marginally in recent decades despite diversion of forest land for mining, road constructions, dams and other development projects. Forest cover was 19.49% in 1987 and it increased to 21.34% in 2015
