you know, many volatile substance, non volatile substances of lower anf medium higher melting point and impurities are present in crude oil.. Petroleum, patrol gas, napthalene, karosene, octane etc higher carbon compounds have different melting points . so fractional distillation is done to separate products at differnet melting point having m.p difference 40 celcius and above
