Freely suspended magnet comes to rest in North and South direction.
================================☆

To get the solution of this problem we should first know that,

Earth itself behave like a magnet,and also it have not and South Pole,
the geographical ( Earth's) North Pole is suspended magnet's South Pole.

And the geographical South Pole is suspended magnet show North Pole.

Now,
When suspended magnet moves freely then it comes to be stop when it comes in direction of North or South this is because,

When when a suspended magnet comes in south direction then it comes in contact with geographical north pole which causes a Strong attraction between suspended magnet South Pole and geographical North Pole.

Due to this force of attraction the magnet comes to rest.

And in case of north pole of suspended Magnet the vice- versa.

A freelu suspended magnet always come to rest in north-south direction because the earth also behaves like a huge bar magnet with its magnetic poles near the geographical North pole and south pole
