a protocol is a set of rules that tell computers how to interact.
ftp or file transfer protocol is supposed to help computers to transfer files.
remote computer is a computer far away from you. it can be someone else in your colony, someone else in your country, or it can be someone else in your continent.
it doesnt matter. it is far away from you.
ftp helps in file transfer betwwen your computer and a remote computer.
either you download files from remote computer , i.e. recieve files.
or you upload files to remote computer ,i.e. send files.
