Answer:

This means that in petrol engines, the fuel and air should be pre-mixed, while in diesel engines, mixing happens only during the combustion. Due to this reason diesel engines use a fuel injector while petrol engines use a spark plug.

Answer:

Fuel injectors are used in all modern petrol car engines. Literally every petrol car coming out of a factory nowadays has fuel injectors.

Some motorcycle engines are also fuel injected e.g. Bajaj Pulsar 220 Dts-Fi (Fuel Injected).

The difference between a diesel injector and a petrol injector is that a petrol injector replaces the carburettor and is located before the intake valve due to which the operating pressure is around 3-5 bar. A diesel injector, which is inside the combustion chamber, has pressure as high as 3000bar (yes, it is really that high).

There is another gasoline injection system which is a hybrid of the above two, called Gasoline direct Injection. It injects petrol inside the combustion chamber at a pressure range of 1000–3000bar. VW calls this TSi/TFSi (Turbocharged Fuel Stratified Injection).

Here are a few fuel injection related terms you might have read on Cars/bikes:

Petrol injection: MPFI, MPI, DTS-Fi

Diesel injection: DICOR, CRDi, CRDe, TDi
