- crowds took to streets in many worth Indian towns
- there was strikes, clashes with police and attacks on the government buildings
- the government responded with brutal repression, seeking 10u milate and terrorize people
- satyagrahi were forced to rub their nose on the ground, crawl on the street and do salam to all sahabs...
- people were flogged and villages(around Gujranwala in Punjab, now in Pakistan) were bombed....
- soon violence spread ,mahatma Gandhi called off the movement [ROWLETT ACT (1919)]
