Because,the Ganga - Brahmaputra plain contains nutritious soil and this soil is helpful for growing crops.The plain is formed as the Ganga and Brahmaputra river flows through the area and they leave behind the silt which is useful to grow crops.For growing crop many of the people have situated there which made the plain over populated.

Because the river is a source of fishing as well it's a very fertile land for agricultural farming to take place...
