why ganga river is polluted?

Not only Ganga but there are many other rivers too which are polluted and all of them have quite same reasons of being contaminated. River Ganga is polluted largely due to human activities like bathing or washing or it could even be some religious reasons. Other reasons could be the disposal of untreated sewage or waste materials of industries directly into rivers.
