Why get a newfoundland dog costlier than saint bernard?

Both are long-haired dogs in the Mastiff family. Both are working dogs. But in my experience, the temperament of the Newfoundland is much softer and more amenable to training, while the Saint Bernard is not as soft (but still not “stubborn”) and more likely to be more independent.
