HUMAN SKELETON -
Human Skeleton consist of 206 bones. All the bones of human body together form Skeleton.
It differentiates into two parts -
1. Axial Skeleton -
All the bones present in central axis of the body known as Axial Skeleton.
It includes bone present in skull, vertebral column, ribs and sternum.
(a) Skull - Bones present in head together forms skull. There are 29 bones present in Skull. It contains Cranium (8 bones), Facial bones (14 bones), Hyoid (1 bone) and Ear Ossicles (3 pairs bones).
(b) Vertebral column - It's situated in the middle dorsal region. It has 4 curves which are - cervical curve, thoracic curve, lumber curve and sacral curve. There are 26 bones are present in vertebral column. 7 bones in cervical region, 12 bones in thoracic region, 5 bones in lumber region and 5 Bones fused together in sacral region. Atlas is Firs cervical vertebra which is attached to skull on condyl.
(c) Sternum and Ribs - Sternum is situated in the middle of thorax. It's length is about 15 cm. 12 pairs of ribs are present in thorax. Each rib is c- shaped structure connected to sternum at front side and vertebral column and back side.
2. Appendicular Skeleton -
All the bones present at the lateral side of axial skeleton is known as Appendicular Skeleton. There are 126 bones are present in Appendicular Skeleton.
(a.) Pectoral Girdle and Fore Limbs bone - Pectoral girdle are present on shoulder region. It has two bones which are 'Scapula' and 'Clavicle'. In upper arm one 'Humerous' present, One 'Radius' and one 'Ulna' are present in fire arm, 8 carpels are present in wrist, 5 metacarpals are present in palm and 14 phalanges are present in fingers.
(b) Pelvic Girdle and Hind limb bones - Pelvic Girdle is present in hip region. It has three bones which are Ilium, Ischium and Pubis. All these three bones join together and forms single bone. In hind limb Femur present in thigh which longest bone of the body. Small rounded 'Patella' is present in knee, Tibia and Fibula are present in shank, 7 Tarsals are present in ancle, 5 metatarsals are present in sole and 14 phalanges are present in toes.
