Why grignard reagent is prepared is not prepared in waterin ether medim?

Ether is nearly an inert solvent, so doesn't reacts with the reagent at all.

On the other hand, water is comparatively more reactive (also has an incredibly high dielectric constant - 80) which is not favourable while preparing the reagent.

  • It is prepared in ether medium because the reagent reacts with water. Slight traces of moisture will prevent the reaction.
