h2 gas is not evolved when metal reacts with nitric acid bcoz nitric acid is a strong oxidising agent thus metals are not able to replace hydrogen from strong nitric acid
but h2 gas is evolved when metals like 'mg' and 'mn' react with very very dilute nitric acid.....
just drop a thanks if it hlps.... : )
mark brainliest if it duits u......
hope i cud hlp further

Answer:
Hydrogen gas is not evolved when a metal reacts with nitric acid. It is because HNO3 is a strong oxidising agent. It oxidises the H2 produced to water and itself gets reduced to any of the nitrogen oxides (N2O, NO, NO2).
