The time period when boys and girls become sexually mature due to the production of sex hormones is referred to as puberty.

Various changes which occur in girls at puberty :

• Growth of hair in private regions;
• Enlargement of reproductive parts;
• Development and enlargement of mammary glands;
• Development of sexual feelings, etc.

All these changes occurs due to the female sex hormones called oestrogen and progesterone.

Similarly, various changes also occur in boys at puberty some of which are similar to the ones in girls such as :

1. Hair growth under armpits and pubic region (genital area);
2. Sexual feelings begin to develop, etc.
