why has pluto been demoted as a planet

Plotu has been demoted as a planet because it breaks the rule "clearing the neighbourhood" that is it sometimes enters the path of the planet Neptune.The planets do not enter other planets orbits but pluto does.Therefore it has been demoted as a planet in2007 by NASA.
