ANSWER -

It allows people in different places and different countries to use the same units, avoid mistakes and understand each other more easily. The common base 10 of all units makes it easier and has more accurate calculations that are made without cumbersome conversion factors.

The SI system was developed to standardize the units of measurement across all countries so as to facilitate an easier understanding of scientific terms and everyday items.

  • SI stands for Système international. It was first used in France during the 1800s and later adopted by the world in 1960.
  • Prior to this, different countries had different groupings of units. Thus, there was a need to unify the units of measurement to facilitate trade and scientific growth.
  • Moreover, the SI system is based on multiples of 10 which makes calculations faster and less cumbersome.
  • The SI is not fixed but keeps on changing with international agreement as measurement technology advances.
  • Thus, a need for a dynamic system that is easy to use and uniform across all regions is what led to the development of the SI system.
