I presume the answer is that we tend to build in areas where crops can’t be grown and which may be prone to landslips. Our act of building may de-stabilize the ground.

Answer:

A landslide is a natural disaster which involves the movement of mass of rock, soil and sediments down the slope of the mountain land mass under the direct influence of gravity. This involves falls, slides, spreads and flows of these materials. Mountain landmass is ideally not suitable for habitation of human population because it is not a stable landmass as compared to terrestrial land mass like plains. These regions are highly prone to landslides.  Withering of rocks and soil erosion will increase in these regions due to heavy population in the mountain region.
