why heat is produced more in series combination as compared to parallel

Heat is generally produced due to resistance.In series combination all the resistors are connected in the same plane in a series so there are my resistances in the path of current.so due to opposition heat produces.
in parallel the current is divided into two or more paths so resistance effect is less.
