Gas turbines have a little better peak efficiency. IC engines have much better part load efficiency.Gas turbines have a little better peak efficiency. IC engines have much better part load efficiency.
Efficiency varies strongly with rating. A 100 hp engine will invariably have higher efficiency than a 10 hp engine. Gas turbines are expensive for their rating and are therefore, generally relatively powerful. Similarly a 120 MW gas turbine is far more efficient at full power (~45+%) than a 200 hp (~150 kw) automobile IC engine at full power (~20%). Comparing the efficiency of a 120 MW gas turbine to an automobile IC engine is an inappropriate measure of the basic efficiency of the cycles.
