why I.S.T is 5 hours 30 minutes ahed of G.M.T. I want the calculation and the reason.​

The reason for the difference in time is because:

  • There is a difference of 4 minutes between very two consecutive longitudes.

Calculation is as follows:

1° = 4 minutes

82°30' E = 82°30' X 4 minutes                            [30' = 30 minutes]

⇒ 82°30' E = (82.5 X 4) minutes                            [ 82°30' = 82.5 ]

⇒ 82°30' E = 330 minutes

Now, 1 hour = 60 minutes.

∴ 330 minutes = (\frac{330}{60} ) hours

⇒ 330 minutes = 5.5 hours i.e. 5 hours 30 minutes.

Hence, proved.
