why ice floats on water although liquid have low density then water?

Water is one of the substances which expand on cooling(volume of water increases at 4 degrees Celsius). When volume increases, density decreases. So, we can say that there are exceptions to the rule that solids are denser than liquids.

This is because ice is also having small holes that are formed when ice is being freezed from water . These ice holes are more bigger than the water molecules . Due to this reason , ice holes are having trapped air which causes low density of ice and as we know when some ones density is lesser than water , it floats. Thus this is the reason for the ice floating in water .....
