Cause of lateral inversion: Lateral inversion is due to the fact that in a plane mirror

plane mirror the image is as far behind the mirror as the object is in front of it

the front of the image and the front of the object face each other.

We are given a concave mirror.

The light rays which come from the object get reflected from the plane mirror and reaches our eyes. At this point of time our brain feels that the reflected ray is coming from inside the mirror. This is the reason why the object seems to be laterally inverted.
