We know that formula for valency=no.of valence electrons or 8-(no. of valence electrons). The outermost shell of an inert gas has 8 electrons.So its valency=(8-8)=0

inert gases have zero valency because they have complete octet or duplet structure.
their outermost shell is complete and therefore they are stable.
they neither gain, lose or share electron and are therefore inert
