Ionic compounds are good conductors of electricity only in the molten state as only in the molten state their is movement of ions and electric current can be carried only if their is some movement of ions or charged particles. Ionic compounds do not conduct electricity in the solid state as solids have a very rigid structure and due to this structure the movement of ions is not possible and electric current cannot pass through them.
