Ionic compounds have high melting points because there is a strong electrostatic force of attraction between the oppositely charged ions and hence a large amount of energy is required to break the strong bonding force between ions.

Answer:

this is because of the higher strong attractive electrostatic forces holding the opposite charged ions together and a large number of ionic bonds in the crystal lattice. these requires a lot of thermal energy to overcome hence have both boiling or melting points .

hope it helps you.
