Hey mate ,
Scientists believe that they had developed a process which prevented wrought iron from rusting . This is likely because of formation of a thin film of magnetic oxide ( Fe3O4 )on its surface , and painting it with a mixture of different salts ..
Hope you find it helpful!!

Answer:
Just like in galvanization, in which a zinc oxide layer protects the inner iron metal, the iron pillar in Delhi has an even layer of crystalline iron(III) hydrogen phosphate hydrate forming on the high-phosphorus-content iron, which protects it from corrosion and any other ill effects the climate may have on it.
Hope it helps :)
