Natural numbers  are called natural or counting numbers, because they can be represented by objects. Zero is a member of whole numbers.

Natural numbers can be represented by objects , such as 2 oranges for 2  , but 0 cannot be . Furthermore ,  \frac{a}{n} , where a is a whole number and n is a natural number , makes sense , but if n = 0,  then it is senseless .
