Many seeds which have a small mass, such as the willow herb, develop long hairs. The hairs increase the air resistance of the seed and allow it to be blown away. The dandelion has a fruit that forms a tuft of hairs. It acts as a parachute and slows down the fruit's sinking speed as the wind blows it along.
