centripital force is needed to keep a body in circular motion..
force acting on a body in circular motion
=I×Alpha
where I is the inertia of mass and alpha is acceleration..
hope it helps you. .

so as per your question...the force which acts towards the centre of a Circle to keep the body in circular motion is known as centripetal force..this force make it stable in the circular path ..if it does not work then the body will move with a translatory motion or liner motion..so force is need...and the formula for centripetal force is mv^2/r...where
m=mass of objects.
v=velocity
r=radius of the Circle....
hope this will help you...my dear friend...
