there are mainly two reasons -
1. laboratory thermometer has a high range of temperature like -10 to +110 degrees whereas such hight range is not required at all to measure body temperature
2. The mercury level in laboratory thermometer falls automatically hence not giving proper readings if used to measure body temperature
