Why is a sharp knife is more affective in cutting objects than a blunt knife

Force is directly propotional to pressure and inversely propotional to area. Since the area of sharp knife is lesser than that of a blunt knife so less force is required to apply pressure to cut the object. More force will be required to apply same pressure in case of blunt knife as its area is large.
