Thar is a desert because the climate of Thar is hot, humid, and it is full of sand dunes.Only desert plants like cactus and acacia grow there. Animals like scorpions, snakes, camels thrive in this kind of climate.

The orientation of Arabian sea branch of South West Monsoon is parallel to Mt Aravalli range and wind passing through crust of Aravalli Mt range is of high pressure and wind doesn't get saturated at high pressure therefore it remains dry and Thar is known as a Desert.
