Why is acidic soil is treated with quick lime

Acidic soil needs to be neutralise.Quick line when reacts with water/moisture in surrounding produces slaked lime or Ca(OH)2 which is basic and can neutralise the soil for better crops.

The pH of normal soil is around 7(neutral). If we will add quicklime, which is a base, in acidic soil then the acid will be neutralized and the pH would come back to normal.
