Because it is composed of various gases such as nitrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide, inert gases and so on.Moreover , dust particles and water vapour are also present in the atmosphere because of which air is mixture.

Air is called a mixture, because it consists of 78% nitrogen (N), 21% oxygen (O), 0.98% argon (Ar) and 0.02% carbon dioxide (CO2) and water vapours (H2O).
