There are mainly two reasons for why air is not visible. Its LOW DENSITY in the atmosphere is one of them. Since air has low density so its molecules are very far apart .Thus it is just Impossible to see those molecules. The other reason is also correlated to it. Due to low density as told above the constituent molecules of air are far away from each other. We know that anything in the universe is visible only when light rays fall on them and after reflection return back to our eyes. Now the size of a molecule is of the range 10-15 and the wavelength of light rays is of the range 10-6 which is very-very large from those of a molecule. This can be thought as a cricket ball as molecule's size and the cricket stadium as the light wave. So, the light wavelengths pass away from the molecules and never reflect back to form the image of the air molecules on our EYES.
