Why is alcohol soluble in water and other covalent compounds dont?

Ionic compound are usually soluble in water like alcohol. Ionic compound dissolve in water because water has a high dielectric constant due to which it weakens the interaction between the ions.
Covalent compounds are usually insoluble in water but they are soluble in organic solvents for example naphthalene is insoluble in water but dissolve in organic solvent like it some of the covalent compounds like glucose ,sugar and urea etc, are however soluble in water. the polar covalent compounds like HCL and Ammonia are also soluble in water
