Why is aluminium rendered passive with fuming nitric acid?

because nitric acid is a strong oxidizing agent due to which when it react with aluminium it forms the extremely thin Layer of insoluble metallic oxide which stops the reaction AMD make them passive..Passivity can be removed by rubbing the suface with sand paper..or by treat it with strong reducing agents..
