It has much to do with the differential heating and cooling of oceanic waters and landmass.Just to put things in perspective, a little brush up with chemistry basics is warranted……if you know that Water has a higher heat capacity than land. So it takes more heat to raise the temperature of one gram of water by one degree than it does to raise the temperature of land.
