it is because common cold ia a viral disease and antibiotic can only cuer bacterial disease because -
1) members from each family of an micro organism have their own special characteristics.
2) example = bacteria have their own biochemical pathways and they multiply very fast.
3) viruses do not have their own biochemical pathways .
4) bacteria multiply fast own their own but viruses multiply only on the body of the host.
5) so antibiotics can only block the biochemial pathways of bacteria and thua cure only bacterial diseases.

⇒ Antibiotics are commonly use to block biochemical pathways which is important for bacteria.

⇒ Many Bacteria make cell wall to protect themselves.

⇒ The antibiotic penicillin blocks the bacterial processes that build the cell wall.

⇒ As a result, The growing bacteria are unable to make cell wall and die easily.

⇒ But viruses do not use this path ways therefore antibiotic do not work against viral infection.
