Why is atomic mass is not considered as actual mass of an element?

Atomic Mass - Chemistry LibreTexts This measurement is therefore called the accurate mass of the molecule. Isotopes (and hence molecules) have atomic masses that are not integer masses due to a mass defect caused by binding energy in the nucleus.
