Australia altogether is a single very big landmass.
It is an island, continent and a country.
Wonder why?
Continent simply means Mainland.(Australia is a main land.It cannot be called an island as a whole because it is too large.)
On the other hand Country simply means a nation with its own government.
Australia happens to have one Australian central government.
Australia is therefore both a country and a continent.
Cheers!
