The systole phase of the cardiac cycle is when the heart contracts and pumps blood to the rest of the body via the aorta and the pulmonary artery. This phase has high pressure because the contraction of the heart causes increase pressure on the arterial walls as blood is pumoed through them.
The diastolic phase of the cardiac cycle, is when the heart relaxes allowing its chambers to be filled by blood. This phase has a lower pressure has it involves the relaxation of the heart muscles.
