Hope it helps...!!!

______________

Tank irrigation is more popular in south India because of the following reasons :-

✔️The undulating relief and hard rocks make it difficult to dig canals and Wells.

✔️There is a little percolation of rain water due to hard rock structure and ground water is not available in large quantities.

✔️The scattered nature of population and agricultural fields also favours tank irrigation

✔️Most of the rivers in this region are seasonal and dry up in summer season. Therefore they cannot supply water to canals throughout the year.

Canal irrigation is more popular in south India than in north India because firstly south India is more cleaner and people are more educated compared to north India and also due to uneven distribution of nature the tank irrigation is difficult. The supply of water is not sufficient because of the water bodies that mostly dries up in summer.
