Carbon and hydrogen are not used as reducing agents at high ... Because they cannot oxidise other substances at higher temperatures and are unable to build up the process of reduction. Usually metallic oxides are reduced by C only at a high temperature. ... Hence electrolysis is preferred method for reduction and extraction of such metals.
