why is carbon not used as reducing aluminium from aluminium oxide?

aluminum is too high in the reactivity series to extract it from its Ore using carbon reduction . the temperature needed are too high to he economic . instead this it is extracted by electrolysis . the aluminium oxide has too high melting point to electrolyse on its own
