Why is charcoal considered a better fuel than wood?

Charcoal is a brittle grey solid which mainly consists of element of carbon. It burns easily without any flame and produces no smoke. Furthermore it has a higher heat generation capacity than wood. weather if we look wood it causes smoke and many enviormental problems and burns up fast
