Answer: CHCl₃ is stored in dark colored bottles to prevent it from U.V. rays from sunlight. If chloroform is not kept in dark colored bottles then it will react with the U.V. rays and form (CCl₄) carbon tetrachloride.
CHCl₃ + U.V. rays ⇒ CCl₄

Chloroform is slowly oxidized by air in the presence of light to an extremely poisonous gas, carbonyl chloride, also known as Phosgene, It is therefore stored in closed darkcolored bottles completely filled so that air is kept out. Hence, chloroform is stored in dark-coloured bottles filled up to the brim.
