Chlorophyll has the function of converting starch into glucose and other simpler plant products. So we have to remove chlorophyll from the leaf before testing.

  • Greenish colour of chlorophyll can give a wrong indication of positive starch test.

Therefore, chlorophyll is removed by boiling in alcohol & then placing it in hot water before testing for starch.
