Greenish colour of chlorophyll can give a wrong indication of positive starch test. therefore , chlorophyll is removed( hot water, hot alcohol , ) before testing for starch ( with I + Kl solution ).

Ahoy dear user!!!☺️
⏬ANSWER OF YOUR QUESTION⏬
As we know that chlorophyll is a green pigment so it masks the colour change of the iodine test for starch and so for that it needs to be removed from the leaf i.e. the leaves needs to be "decolourized" for the changes to be observed.
NOTE: A decolourized leaf is pale yellow or green.
Hope it helps you out!!!✌️
