Co+ is stable then Co because CO+ has complete octet.

CO+ is more stable than CO because the total no. of electrons in it completes the octet.

Why is it so?

  • CO and CO+ Bond lengths are 1.128 Angstrom and 1.115 Angstrom individually.
  • Bond order of CO+ is 3.5 and CO bond request is 3.
  • So CO+ is a more steady bond than CO since it finishes the octet which makes it stable all alone without taking or giving electrons to different atoms.
  • CO atom is neutral.
  • Bond order of CO+ relies upon hybridisation of the atom.
