1. When the bowl is empty rays of light coming from coin obstructed by the side of the bowl and hence coin is not visible when seen from one side of the bowl.
2. When water is poured in the Bole the rays of light coming from coin travel from water denser medium to rarer medium . Hence they bend away from normal on refraction.
3. Therefore the coin appears to be raised and becomes visible.

Due to refraction, light rays from the coin bend away from normal as they move from denser to rarer medium. So the observer in the rarer medium sees the apparent depth, i.e. , sees the coin to be raised
